Case Consultant
Mr. McChesney regularly fields calls from colleagues statewide and offers insights and assistance on cases involving complex and evolving issues. Beyond the usual cases, Mr. McChesney has special interest and experience in the application of the Uniform Parentage Act and doctrines associated with establishment of informal marriages. In certain instances we are able to share research, specimen pleadings, and help colleagues avoid common pitfalls for their clients. We follow the courts of appeals in the crafting of decisions in these areas and in family law broadly.
Mr. McChesney also attends legislative committee hearings at the State Capitol when proposed changes to the Texas Family Code are being discussed and has testified at those hearings in an effort to improve the writing of the laws.
The proverbial picking of the brain is often a matter of collegiality and professional courtesy. When asked for a download, full course, review or production of briefs, and other substantive assistance with the law and the threshing and fleshing of facts as affects strategy, I've found that some lawyer's clients are happy to bring me on in the background as case consultant and aide de camp. On the fact part, we are certainly easier to arrange than a focus group.
I offer formal consulting services at my usual hourly rate for legal services at the time the service is rendered. I am not prissy about my cell phone and I talk nights and weekends, too.
I can also assist you in jury selection.
